A cat will hijack your screen when you scroll too long
Cat Gatekeeper is the cutest forced-break app for
macOS and Windows. Set a limit, scroll your favorite apps, and when time is up โ a cat takes over until you actually rest.

Introduce
What is Cat Gatekeeper?
You just can't stop scrolling, can you? What you need isn't more willpower โ it's a cat that forces its way onto your screen. Cat Gatekeeper watches your active app and, when you've scrolled too long, drops an irresistible cat on top of everything until your break is over.
Built for desktop
Native apps for macOS and Windows โ focus protection that works across every browser and every social app on your computer.
Active-time only
Cat Gatekeeper only counts time when the social app is actually focused. Switch tabs or apps and the timer pauses automatically.
A cat you can't ignore
When time is up, an adorable cat takes over the entire screen. Humans are powerless against the supreme fluffballs โ so you finally rest.
Privacy by design
No account required, and your app usage never leaves your device. Screen access is used only to draw the cat overlay locally.
Benefits
How it works
Three knobs, one cat. Set it once and let the gatekeeper handle the rest of your day.
1. Set your usage limit
Pick how long you're allowed to scroll before a break is forced. Default is 60 minutes โ adjust per app to match how you actually want to live.

2. Set your break time
Decide how long the cat stays. Default is 5 minutes. Long enough to stand up, stretch, drink water, and remember you're a person.

3. The cat does the rest
When you hit the limit, a cat takes over your screen until the countdown ends. Then the timer resets and your day continues โ gently.

Why people love Cat Gatekeeper

Frequently asked questions
Still curious? Email hello@cat-gatekeeper.com and a human (with a cat on their lap) will reply.
Which operating systems does Cat Gatekeeper support?
The desktop app supports macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11.
Which apps and websites does it work with?
Out of the box: X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The desktop app works across browsers and supported native apps so the same limits apply everywhere on your computer.
How does the timer count my usage?
Cat Gatekeeper only counts time when a watched app or website is the active, focused window. The moment you switch tabs or apps, the timer pauses. After a break ends, the countdown resets fresh.
Can I turn the cat off when I really need to keep working?
You can adjust your limits and break length at any time, but the whole point is that the cat is harder to dismiss than a notification. You'll always be able to wait out the break โ that's the design.
Does Cat Gatekeeper collect any data?
The desktop app keeps your usage and limits on your device. This website uses basic analytics to understand visits and improve Cat Gatekeeper. Screen access is used only to render the cat overlay locally.
Is it really free?
Yes. Cat Gatekeeper is free, with no ads and no paid tier hiding the actually useful features. If you'd like to support development, just tell a friend who scrolls too much.
Request more pets or animals
Tell us which animal you want next and leave your email. We'll use these requests to guide future cats, dogs, and other chaos agents.
